Renton Police Make Major Theft Arrests Early Friday

RENTON, WA - Police were busy early Friday morning dealing with two separate major theft incidents. Between the two incidents, police recovered a handgun, a stolen car, and a stolen generator.

The first incident happened around 2 a.m. when police identified a stole car driving along Northeast 12th near McKnight Middle School. When the car thief noticed police were on his tail, he ditched the car and took off on foot. Renton's K9, Odin, tracked down the thief, and he was found to be carrying a stolen gun.

Around 5:45 a.m., police responded to the Quality Inn along SR 169 near I-405 on a report of a stolen generator. Witnesses saw the thief loading the generator into the back of his pickup truck.

Just as the thief was driving out of the parking lot, a Renton police patrol SUV arrived and was able to pin the suspect's truck in place. The person who owned the generator was at the scene, and saw that the thief had also stolen some of his tools.

Both thieves were arrested and taken to the King County jail, police reported.
