Renton Police Seek Help Locating Suspect In Woman's Killing

Police are searching for a man detectives believe shot and killed his girlfriend in Renton last weekend.

RENTON, WA — The Renton Police Department is still searching for a man detectives believe shot and killed his girlfriend nearly one week ago. Back on Aug. 21, a 911 caller reported a woman with a gunshot wound to the chest in the parking lot of a housing complex on Benson Road South, police said. While officers were on the way to the scene, a relative of the victim drove her to Valley Medical Center, where she later died.

In a news release Thursday, police named the suspected shooter as Vaughn Alexander Weems, 38, and confirmed a warrant was issued for his arrest on suspicion of second-degree murder. The department also released a photo of Weems.

Earlier attempts to find Weems have failed, so police are asking neighbors to keep an eye out and report any information on his whereabouts. Investigators believe he also has ties in California, Ohio and Texas.
