RENTON, WA — Renton police officers shot and killed a man near Walmart Monday afternoon after 911 callers reported a person shooting at buildings along Southwest 7th Street, officials said.
In a news release, the Renton Police Department said officers arrived in the area just before 2 p.m. as witnesses reported the man walking and "shooting his gun at random." Police said officers soon spotted a man holding a gun on the 500 block of Stevens Avenue Southwest.
"Numerous commands were given to the subject to stop walking towards them and drop his weapon which went unheeded," a police spokesperson said. "Officers were given no choice but to shoot the subject in order to stop the impending threat to themselves and others."
