Renton Serial Purse Thief Caught At Walmart

RENTON, WA - A man who was allegedly stealing purses out of shopping carts in the downtown area was arrested over the weekend at Walmart, according to police.

In late April, a 75-year-old woman reported that her purse was stolen out of a shopping cart at the downtown Safeway. The suspect waited at the front of the store, and then tricked the woman into turning her back so he could grab her purse.

Over the past week, two purses were stolen out of shopping carts at the Walmart along Rainier Avenue South. Cameras at the Walmart captured images of the suspect. When he returned to the Walmart this weekend, security guards called police.

Police reported that the man admitted to all the purse thefts. He was booked into the King County Jail on a charge of theft.
