RENTON, WA - City crews worked through the night to fix a large 15-foot deep sinkhole along Rainier Avenue in the northbound lanes, and that work will continue through at least Friday. Renton police said Thursday afternoon repairs would taken another night of work.
"I’s a big project! No ETA for re-opening the road yet, but we'll share it when we know it," the Renton Emergency Management department tweeted Thursday morning.
The sinkhole is located along the 900 block of Rainier Avenue South, which is just north of the St. Vincent de Paul store. The road is closed along the stretch, and cars were being detoured through Skyway and Seattle along Renton Avenue. During rush hour Thursday, a long line of cars backed up Renton Avenue in the Rainier Beach neighborhood.
