Renton Summer Games: Pick Up Your Free Kits This Weekend

The city is seeking 1,000 participants for this year's virtual games, which includes a community birdhouse art project.

RENTON, WA β€” The coronavirus pandemic has made for an unusual summer in Washington, but the city of Renton has a creative plan to unite the community for some fun at a safe distance.

This year, the Renton Summer Games will be chronicled on social media, but participating will require a bit of hands-on artistry. Throughout August, the city has several themed events and challenges lined up, spanning a range of sports and outdoor activities to dance, music and crafts.

Another activity, Project Cuckoo, encourages neighbors to decorate birdhouses with art that reflects the stories, sentiments and emotions of this unique time in history. Through Monday, participants can upload photos of their completed creations online for a virtual art gallery.

This weekend, residents are invited to pick up a kit at the Renton Community Center, while supplies last:
