Roman Candle 'Fight' In Skyway Leaves SUV Torched

A teenager borrowed his mother's car to buy fireworks. She never got the vehicle back.

SKYWAY, WA - Three teens having a fight with Roman candle fireworks ended up torching an SUV - and it belonged to one of the teens' parents. The incident happened Tuesday morning along South 122nd Street in Skway, which is between Renton and South Seattle.

According to King County Fire District 20, one of the teens - age 14 - borrowed his mother's car to buy fireworks. After buying the fireworks, he parked the car along 122nd, and then he and two of his friends started shooting Roman candles at each other. One of the fireworks landed in the SUV.

[A] 14 year old from South Seattle took his parents car to get fireworks with his friends. The 14 year old dropped his friends off and drove around the block. When his friends returned they began to light Roman candles at the car when one of the balls became stuck in the vent, catching the car on fire.

The King County Sheriff's Office was looking into the matter.
