Saturday Is Renton Census Countdown Day

RENTON, WA — Saturday marks "Census Countdown Day" in Renton, and those who have yet to complete their census forms can visit one of three locations to get drive-thru assistance and pick up some free ice cream.

The census is taken every 10 years across the United States, providing detailed demographic information that informs how many congressional seats each state receives and how those districts are drawn. Census information also plays a role in how more than $675 billion in federal funds are allotted to states, counties and cities each year.

Three census events in Renton on Saturday, Aug. 22:

• Benson Hill Fred Meyer (17801 108th Ave. SE)
• 200 Mill Building (200 Mill Ave. S)
• Fire Station 12 (Harrington Pl. SE & NE 12th St.)

All three events take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

At each location, census ambassadors with iPads will assist residents with completing the census. To encourage participation, each person who submits a completed form will get a $10 gift certificate, discount coupons for local businesses and be entered to win a $100 gift card. Each location will also offer free ice cream. All visitors must wear face coverings.
