Speeding Driver Crashes In Renton Parking Lot, Sparks Fire

A Bellevue man crashed his car into a Renton restaurant and car dealership early Friday morning.

RENTON, WA — A 35-year-old from Bellevue crashed his car into a Renton car dealership lot early Friday morning, and was traveling near 100 MPH, according to reports.

The incident happened around 3 a.m. as the driver was headed toward I-405 down Rainier Avenue. He crossed the median south of the train trestle, hit a light pole and then careened into the IHOP parking lot.

The man's car came to rest in a dealership parking lot at the northeast corner of South 7th Street and Rainier Avenue South. The car caught fire, and damaged several parked vehicles.

The driver was taken to Harborview, but Renton police said he was seen walking around moments after the crash. He also has previous reckless driving arrests, and was supposed to be using an ignition interlock device, Renton police said.
