Springbrook Trout Farm Opens For Season On Friday

If you grew up on a lake or took summer vacations near one, you’ll never forget the first fish you ever caught with your dad, or your grandpa. (Mine was a sunfish, caught from a cane pole, and all of about  3” long). But some kids grow up in the city, and haven’t had that opportunity.  But they can now, if they  head down to Springbrook Trout Farm, a hidden gem just up the street from Valley Medical Center and , is located at 19225 Talbot Road S.

The Springbrook Trout Farm opens for the season on Friday at 10 a.m. So, pack up the kids or grandkids and a picnic lunch and head down for a fun-filled day.

Since its opening in 1930, the trout farm experience has become an annual tradition for many Seattle-area families. It’s the perfect spot to learn the basics of fishing. Poles and bait are provided, there's no need for a license, and there are friendly folks on hand to help.

And it gets better. Fishermen, and women, only pay for the fish they catch. Enjoy the park-like setting while fish farm hands clean and package your catch. Need a recipe idea? Springbrook has those, too. If the thought of cooking after a long day of fishing is too much to stomach, get it grilled at the farm and enjoy it right there.

The farm promises the highest quality of all sizes of rainbow trout from three different spring-fed ponds. One small pond is ideal for your littlest one.

You and the kids can spread your lunch out on one of the two covered picnic areas  (includes barbeque grills), where you can grill your fish, and there is space for the kids to run and play in the 'in-the-city,' yet rustic atmosphere. A favorite attraction at the farm is a tree-house.

If you are looking for a unique birthday party experience, they offer different packages to suit your family's needs, and  offer group experiences for schools, clubs, and churches, but you must call ahead to make reservations.
