Police Shoot, Kill Man During Confrontation In Renton
An investigation is underway after a police sergeant fatally shot a man near a Renton 7-Eleven Thursday afternoon.
RENTON, WA — Renton Police said an armed man was shot by an officer Thursday after he brandished weapons during a confrontation. According to a police news release, a patrol sergeant first contacted the man for a liquor violation, in the area of 168th Street and 116th Avenue Southeast, around 3:45 p.m.
A short time later, investigators said a 911 call came in reporting a man with a gun seen in the area just a few minutes prior.
As the officer approached, police said the man pulled out what appeared to be a shotgun. The officer fired at least one shot, and the man dropped the weapon and ran away. Another officer arrived and attempted to stop the suspect with a less-lethal weapon, but police said the man did not comply.

After the second confrontation, officers said the man took out a knife and moved toward them. The first officer fired at least one more shot at the man, who then came to a stop.
According to police, the man was taken by medics to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The Seattle Times reported he later died from his injuries. No officers were injured during the incident.

Renton Police said the officer who shot the suspect is a 30-year veteran of the department. He was placed on administrative leave, per standard procedure.
The Valley Investigation Team, comprised of detectives from neighboring police departments, will handle the investigation. The Port of Seattle Police Department is acting as the lead agency.
