Scare Over Suspicious Package Found At Boeing In Renton

Renton police closed streets around Boeing's office buildings along Park Avenue. All streets reopened by 12:15 p.m.

RENTON, WA - Boeing offices near downtown Renton were evacuated Thursday morning after a suspicious package was found. Police later determined that the package didn't have anything inside.

At around 11 a.m., Renton police closed roads surrounding Boeing's offices south of The Landing shopping center. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Port of Seattle police responded to investigate the package.

The scare follows last week's package bombs sent to Democratic politicians across the country. The suspect in those incidents, Cesar Sayoc, appeared to be targeting people singled out by President Donald Trump.

Before Trump took office, he had a small spat with Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg. Muilenburg remarked in December 2016 that Trump's approach to global trade could hurt Boeing, and that prompted Trump to threaten to cancel Boeing's multi-billion dollar contract to build a new Air Force One.

They later made up, and Boeing kept the $3.9 billion Air Force One contract.
