Thrill-Seeking Thieves Targeting Renton Car Dealerships: Report

RENTON, WA - Car thieves have stolen at least seven cars from dealerships in Renton over the last few weeks, according to a KOMO News report, and the problem has gotten so bad, police gathered dealership owners for a meeting about security.

At Walker's Renton Mazda, thieves broke into the dealership by shooting through glass. They made of with five vehicles, according to KOMO. Two more vehicles were taken from The Car Pros Company dealership lots.

Renton Police Det. Bob Onishi told KOMO that he believes the thieves are taking the cars for joy rides. Many of the cars have been recovered - but were severely damaged during the theft.

Dealership owners met with police and the mayor recently to talk about how to secure dealerships better. Renton police are still looking for suspects, and the matter remains under investigation.
