Renton Police ID Men Wanted In Connection To Rape

Renton police released surveillance images of the suspect. Police are asking for help to identify him.

RENTON, WA — Renton police have identified two men who they say are connected to the brutal rape and beating of a 31-year-old woman. One suspect was caught on camera at a Fred Meyer disposing of the victim's belongings after the assault, police said.

"Multiple tips from the public led to them voluntarily coming forward to investigators, and they are no longer wanted at this time. Both have given statements and their involvement in the incident is still under investigation," Renton Commander David Leibman said Tuesday morning.

The attack happened last Wednesday near the downtown Renton Library at around 3 a.m. The woman was carrying a personal alarm, and was able to set it off after the attacker left. A Renton officer heard, finding the woman injured near the 300 block of Mill Avenue South.

The attacker led the woman to the secluded area and then spent an hour raping, strangling, and beating her, police said. She was taken to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

About 14 hours after the attack, the suspect went to the downtown Fred Meyer, where he was caught on a surveillance camera disposing of the woman's phone.
