2 Construction Workers Injured After Seattle Pier Collapses
Pier 58 was closed off by the city in early August after it shifted several inches.
SEATTLE, WA — Two construction workers were hospitalized Sunday afternoon following the partial collapse of Pier 58 on the Seattle waterfront. The pier supported Waterfront Park, situated between the Seattle Aquarium and the Great Wheel. It was closed and fenced off in early August after the city discovered the pier had shifted several inches, leaving a gap between it and the land.
The Seattle Fire Department shared a photo of the collapse shortly after 4:30 p.m. A spokesperson for Harborview Medical Center said both workers' injuries were not life-threatening.

About an hour later, Mayor Jenny Durkan tweeted that the city "began accelerating the removal" of the pier on Friday due to continuing deterioration. The mayor said the city will evaluate the situation for "potential broader impacts" and determine the next steps for the project.
