Officials are also reminding people that state law offers protection from drug possession charges to people who report overdoses. Drug users can also turn over drugs to police if they wish. Finally, police are warning drug users not to use alone in case of an emergency.
Some police officers carry the drug naloxone, which can counteract an opioid overdose. Police officers have rescued at least two people from overdosing over the last few weeks using naloxone. Officers have saved 15 people total since the naloxone program rolled out earlier in 2016.
