488 New Coronavirus Cases, 4 More Deaths In Washington
State health officials said a technical glitch left dozens of coronavirus-related hospitalizations unreported earlier in the week.

SEATTLE, WA — The state Department of Health added 488 coronavirus cases to its official tally Friday afternoon, and four new deaths were linked to COVID-19 in Washington. The latest deaths were recorded in Snohomish, King, Spokane and Yakima counties.
Case counts continue to rise in Yakima County, where at least 152 new illnesses were reported by the end of Thursday. Across the United States, a resurgence in coronavirus cases continues with a record 40,000 illnesses recorded in a single day. That number includes 17,000 new cases in Texas over three days, and daily cases in Florida nearing the 9,000 mark.
As of Friday evening, the U.S. has seen more than 2.4 million COVID-19 cases, and almost 125,000 people have died.
According to the latest available data, at least 30,855 people have tested positive for the virus in Washington since the outbreak began, and 1,304 people have died. More than 514,400 Washingtonians have been tested for the coronavirus, with 6 percent testing positive overall.

Hospitalization data updated after system interruption
State health officials added dozens of recent COVID-19 hospitalizations to the count Friday, which previously went unreported due to a system error.
According to the state, at least 88 hospitalizations were left off the list since last weekend after a technical issue with laboratory and hospital reporting.
"This resulted in our inability to link the hospital data to the Washington Disease Reporting System (WDRS) to update our hospitalizations on the DOH COVID-19 webpage," health officials wrote. "Most of the cases are from the last week, but they date as far back as 3/29."
Previously unreported hospitalizations:
King County: 21
Yakima County: 16
Pierce County: 9
Benton County: 8
Franklin County: 6
Spokane County: 6
Snohomish County: 5
New statewide report shows COVID-19 increasing in Washington
According to the latest "statewide situation report," the rate of COVID-19 transmission is increasing throughout much of Washington.
"The estimate for Yakima County suggests recent efforts to control the virus are showing some initial signs of success, although the situation remains concerning," state health officials wrote in a news release. "In King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, the percentage of the population with COVID-19 is increasing. The trend is more difficult to interpret for King County, due to increases in testing, but the spread of COVID-19 appears to be increasing across the Puget Sound."
The state Department of Health said the number of emergency room visits patients with COVID-like symptoms has plateaued in recent weeks, underlining the need for continued use of face masks and other measures to prevent further transmission.
