8 Injured In Early Morning House Fire On Aurora Avenue

Among the injured was a firefighter who received a minor injury while battling the blaze.

SEATTLE, WA — Seven people are in the hospital and one firefighter has minor injuries after a house fire early Monday morning on Aurora near Westlake.

The blaze sparked up around 5 a.m. in a multi-story home near 2400 Aurora Avenue North. As firefighters began to arrive they quickly found several people who had been wounded, and requested a "Mass Casualty Incident" response to help them contain the fire.

Firefighters managed to gain control of the fire by around 6:30 a.m., an hour and a half after arriving on scene. During that time, firefighters saved seven people from the home, all of whom were taken to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for their wounds. According to medics, four of the injured were severely burned and are in critical condition in the ICU. The other three received less serious injuries jumping from the burning building, and are in stable condition.

One firefighter also received a minor injury responding to the fire, but did not need serious medical treatment.

Now that the blaze is under control investigators have been called in to determine exactly what caused the fire in the first place.
