Alaskan Way Viaduct Closing For Annual Inspection
The twice-annual inspection of the rickety viaduct happens Saturday and Sunday.

SEATTLE, WA - Yes it's an inconvenience, but one that you should be thankful for. The Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed during daytime hours Saturday and Sunday for one of its twice-yearly inspections.
The viaduct will be closed between South Spokane Street (West Seattle Bridge) and the Battery Street Tunnel between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day. It's possible WSDOT inspectors will finish the inspection early, in which case the viaduct would reopen earlier than 6 p.m. Sunday.
There will be at least one more inspection in October. But WSDOT plans to start demolishing the 65-year-old viaduct at the beginning of 2019. The tunnel replacing the viaduct could be open as soon as December, according to the latest construction update from contractor Seattle Tunnel Partners.
