📰 News we're reading

1. 70 shots fired in West Seattle overnight shooting (fox13seattle.com) — More than 70 shots were fired along Alki Avenue Southwest in West Seattle early Friday, damaging nearby buildings and a condo window but causing no reported injuries. Seattle police recovered dozens of shell casings, are still searching for suspects, and are asking anyone with information to contact the department.

2. 'The price of a burrito': KIRO hosts say Seattle's meager fine won't stop Lime takeovers as another planned for Saturday (mynorthwest.com) — Hundreds of Lime scooter riders are expected to gather tonight near the Pioneer Square Pergola, raising fresh concerns about helmet use and safety on Seattle streets. KIRO hosts argue the city's increased $50 fine still isn't enough to curb risky "takeover" rides, while Seattle police urge participants to wear helmets, follow traffic laws, and stay safe.

3. 'An economic chill': Seattle architect says 'millionaires tax' uncertainty killed major project (fox13seattle.com) — A Seattle architecture firm says uncertainty over Washington's proposed "millionaires tax" has already cost it its largest project, slashed revenue by more than half, and forced three layoffs. Owner Mark Elster argues that wealthy clients are quietly canceling high-end construction plans, hurting ordinary workers in Seattle even before any tax is collected, while supporters say the measure would fund education and aid small businesses.

4. Report details death of Seattleite, 18 others at hands of Philippine soldiers (nwasianweekly.com) — Seattle activists and educators rallied outside the Philippine Consulate this week demanding answers over the killing of Seattleite Kai Sorem and 18 others by Philippine soldiers. A new fact-finding report and a letter led by Rep. Pramila Jayapal challenge official claims that all the dead were terrorists, and call for an independent investigation into alleged extrajudicial killings and abuses.
