The federally protected animal's death has been reported to NOAA, and local groups are urging Seattle residents to report any gunfire over the water and help protect marine wildlife in city waterways.
   

• Coast Guard Rescues Capsized Kayaker In San Juan Islands (bigcountrynewsconnection.com) — A Coast Guard crew, dispatched from a Seattle-area command center, rescued a kayaker whose boat capsized near Parker Reef in the San Juan Islands after he radioed a mayday. The man was pulled from cold water and taken to Brandt's Landing Marina for medical care, and officials say his dry suit, life jacket, and VHF radio likely saved his life.
