Bellevue Square 'Smash And Grab' Jewelry Thief Arrested

The robbery two weeks ago caused a lockdown at Bellevue Square.

BELLEVUE, WA - A man suspected of partaking in a theft that caused Bellevue Square to go into lockdown was arrested Thursday, according to Bellevue police. The suspect and an accomplice smashed a jewelry case at the Ben Bridge store with a rock and stole expensive watches.

The robbery happened Nov. 25 around 6 p.m. at the Ben Bridge store at Bellevue Square. The two men entered the store, smashed the display case with a large rock, and ran away with the jewels. Bellevue police were able to lift a fingerprint from the crime scene and matched it to a Renton man under Department of Corrections supervision.

When the 26-year-old showed up to check in at the DOC office in Burien Thursday, the Bellevue SWAT team was waiting for him. He was taken to jail on suspicion of first-degree theft. Police are still trying to track down the second suspect.
