Shorewood High Student Hit By Semi Driver While Biking To School

The crash happened near the intersection of 175th Street and Aurora Avenue Wednesday morning.

SHORELINE, WA - A 14-year-old Shoreline student riding a bicycle was critically injured Wednesday morning after he was hit by the driver of a semi truck. The crash was also caused serious delays along Aurora Avenue near 175th Street.

According to Shoreline fire, the incident happened around 7:30 a.m. as the student was riding west on 175th toward Shorewood High School. After hitting the student, the semi dragged him for approximately 40 feet. The student was conscious when he was taken from the scene. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with "critical injuries."

The crash happened near Shoreline fire headquarters, and so first responders were on-scene almost instantly.

The King County Sherriff's Office said Wednesday morning investigators had not yet determined what caused the crash.

Around noon, the city of Shoreline announced that the intersection of Aurora and 175th northbound had reopened.
