Big Changes At Colman Dock Ferry Terminal This Spring
Starting in April, WSDOT will begin preparing to build pedestrian bridges and tear down the old Colman Dock building.

SEATTLE, WA — State ferry users will begin to see big changes at Colman Dock beginning in April, according to WSDOT. Contractors will begin work on new pedestrian bridges and, perhaps the biggest change, tearing down the old Colman terminal building.
Here's what ferry users should expect between now and mid-summer, according to WSDOT:
- WSDOT will periodically close center vehicle holding lanes for construction on an overhead walkway from Marion Street to the new terminal building
- To ease congestion, WSDOT will reopen lanes at the southern end of the dock and near the new terminal
- A portion of the new, smaller Colman Dock terminal will open by the summer; the facility is too small for food vendors, and will be in place until 2023, when the new dock is expected to be open
- A new King County Water Taxi terminal serving West Seattle and Vashon will also open this summer along the south side of the dock
WSDOT is rebuilding Colman Dock for earthquake safety. The project began in mid-2017, and will wrap up in 2023. Click here to see conceptual images of what the finished dock will look like, and maps of the reconfiguration.
