Cinco De Mayo 2017: Events Happening Around Puget Sound

SEATTLE, WA - Before we talk about the fun, let's take care of some business: Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican independence day. Mexican independence day is Sept. 16. Cinco de Mayo is the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, which happened in 1862. Of course, Cinco de Mayo has its own meaning in the U.S., and is typically a freewheeling day to celebrate Mexican culture, whether it's with food, dancing, music, or a pet adoption event.

OK, now to the fun stuff. We've compiled a number of events happening around Puget Sound on Cinco de Mayo 2017 to help you celebrate in whatever form you're comfortable with. Here are some events happening around Western Washington:

Seattle area

Whittier Blvd's Cinco de Mayo Celebration | 9 p.m. | Lucky Liquor, 10325 E Marginal Way S, Tukwila. Lucky Liquor hosts a Whittier Blvd event every first Friday featuring lowriders and lowrider-themed music by DJ Hefe and DJ Cucuy - this year, it just happens to fall on Cinco de Mayo.

Kent Chamber President's Gala & Business Leadership Awards | 5 p.m. | Kent Chamber of Commerce, 625 West James Street, Kent. 1st Friday - Cinco de Mayo | 5 p.m. | Fairwood Golf & Country Club, 17070 140th Ave SE, Renton. Come out for what's sure to be a delicious evening!

Cinco de Mayo - Hello Pwnie, Maxifinger, Fynnie's Basement | 9 p.m. | Darrell's Tavern | 18041 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline. Vamanos to Darrell's Tavern for Cinco de Mayo featuring Hello Pwnie, Maxifinger and Fynnie's Basement. Music starts at 9PM. Celebrate Maxifinger's new CD release "Mexican Hat". Students will enjoy pizza, dessert, and spending time making Cinco de Mayo Art using ceramics, painting, and crafting. Let your kids get creative while you have a well-deserved night out or a restful night at home!

SCC Dinner Auction | 6 p.m. | Snohomish Community Churh, 13622 Dubuque Road, Snohomish. Our annual dinner auction to benefit out Student Ministry is May 5 this year! Proceeds will help send our Quiz Team to Nationals and support our high school mission trip to Ensenada, MX this July. Lakewood Baseball Club Cinco de Mayo | 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. | Classy Chassis Car Wash, 7701 Custer Road W, Lakewood. Lakewood Baseball Club partners with Classy Chassis to help support the program that strives to instill in our youth the belief in good sportsmanship, honesty and loyalty.

Cinco de Mayo Goldfish Blast | 8 p.m. | The Defiant Goldfish, 5310 N Pearl St., Tacoma. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo like a Goldfish Rockstar. All Mexican Beers will be $3 from 8pm to close.
