Condition Of Mom Shot By Son, 4, In Skyway Improves

The 27-year-old woman, who is 8 months pregnant, was accidentally shot Saturday, according to police.

SKYWAY, WA - The pregnant mother shot by her 4-year-old son over the weekend has been upgraded to stable condition, according to police. The 27-year-old woman's unborn baby was not harmed in the shooting.

The woman was shot just before 5 p.m. Saturday in her apartment in the Skyway area between Renton and Seattle. She was in bed with her boyfriend when her son found a gun hidden between the mattress and box spring. The boy accidentally fired the weapon, hitting his mother in the face.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center and was initially listed in critical condition.

The gun belonged to the woman's boyfriend. He told police he had obtained the gun for his own protection.

The boy will not face criminal charges. King County detectives are still investigating the incident and had not, as of Monday, made any arrests.
