Firefighters Battle Apartment Fire In Heart Of Greenwood

A "multi-residential structure" was on fire Wednesday afternoon near the busiest part of the Greenwood neighborhood in Seattle.

SEATTLE, WA - Seattle firefighters were battling a fire at an apartment building in the heart of the Greenwood neighborhood Wednesday afternoon. The fire broke out in a building near the intersection of North 87th Street and Greenwood Avenue, which is at the north end of the neighborhood's bustling commercial district.

Around 1:45 p.m., Seattle fire PIO Kristin Tinsley reported that the fire was out. The first units were dispatched to the scene around 1:20 p.m., according to 911 records.

The Seattle Department of Transportation warned locals to watch for road closures in the area. The scene of the fire is close to a Safeway store and two blocks east of a large Fred Meyer.
