Former WSDOT Engineer To Take Over SDOT

Linea Laird, a former WSDOT chief engineer, oversaw the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement.

SEATTLE, WA - Former WSDOT chief engineer Linea Laird will take over as interim director of the Seattle Department of Transportation, according to Mayor Jenny Durkan's office. Laird will take over from Goran Sparrman, who stepped in as interim SDOT director after Scott Kubly left in December 2017.

Laird most recently worked as an administrator and chief engineer on the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement project. Her time at SDOT will coincide with the opening of the new tunnel under downtown Seattle and the demolition of the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

Durkan has said previously that Sparrman would only serve through August. Laird will begin as SDOT director on Sept. 1.
