Hazardous Weather Prompts Alert For Puget Sound
The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement about potentially dangerous heat and smoke over the weekend.
SEATTLE, WA - The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a special weather statement for the region warning of high heat and serious fire danger. Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be in the mid-80s, according to forecasts, but temperatures could hit 90 or above on Monday and Tuesday.
Aside from the heat danger, state and local officials are worried about new brush fires popping up due to extremely dry conditions. Transportation officials are warning drivers not to throw cigarettes out the window and to make sure car parts don't scrape along the pavement.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshall issued a recreational burn ban on Friday, which will be in place for the foreseeable future.

"A warming trend begins today and the return of hot weather will continue through the middle of next week over Western Washington. The hottest day will be around Tuesday. Offshore winds on Monday and Tuesday will push hot temperatures all the way to the Washington Coast. High temperatures in the 80s and lower 90s are expected this weekend, including Labor Day. By Tuesday, most places from Seattle on south should reach the lower 90s," the special weather statement reads.
"The greatest health impact will be in places which experience the least overnight cooling. For higher hills and in the urban core of Seattle, nighttime temperatures will only cool into the 60s. Elsewhere, late night temperatures in the 50s will allow more cooling and provide a nightly reprieve from the heat."
