Heavy Labor Day Traffic Expected On I-90

The DOT is warning drivers that construction work could bring traffic to a halt.

SEATTLE, WA - The state Department of Transportation is warning that Labor Day could be tough for travelers on I-90. Bridge deck repairs in the westbound lanes between Snoqualmie Pass and North Bend will require a westbound lane to be closed. The department had hoped to complete the repairs before the holiday but only two out of three lanes will remain open.

There will also be lane closures and traffic shifts on I-90 in the Cle Enum area, as crews are replacing old pavement with new concrete lines.

The DOT said travelers headed eastbound on Friday, Sept. 1 should consider going early in the day or late in the evening to avoid delays. Westbound travelers are likely to encounter major traffic on Monday, Sept. 4 and should consider leaving early or waiting until the following day.
