Seattle Mayor Molested Foster Son In 1980s, Investigator Finds: Seattle Times

The Seattle Times on Sunday published the details of a 1980s child sex abuse investigation of Seattle Mayor Ed Murray.

SEATTLE, WA - The Seattle Times on Sunday published the details of a 1980s child sex abuse investigation of Seattle Mayor Ed Murray. The newspaper obtained previously-sealed records from Multnomah County that that show a state investigator thought Murray molested his foster son in 1984.

“In the professional judgement of this caseworker who has interviewed numerous children of all ages and of all levels of emotional disturbance regarding sexual abuse, Jeff Simpson has been sexually abused by … Edward Murray,” the Seattle Times quoted the report as saying.

In an interview with the paper, Murray says that the records vindicate him because the records also show that a prosecutor was unwilling to bring the case to court. Jeff Simpson has made sex abuse allegations against Murray in public before, but did not sue Murray due to legal time limitations.

Murray dropped out of the mayoral race this spring after Delvonn Heckard, a former Seattle sex worker, sued Murray alleging that the mayor raped and sexually abused Heckard in Seattle in the late 1980s. Heckard's attorney has since suspended the lawsuit, and Murray has said the suit was fabricated to damage his mayoral reelection campaign.
