An especially wet January could land in the record books this week, with continued rain in the forecast for the next several days. According to a report from the Seattle Times, the Seattle area could tie the record for 28 rainy days by Friday, Jan. 31 — nearly twice the typical 15-day average. The National Weather Service said Olympia, Hoquiam and Quillayute were also poised to break records.

Saturated soil has led to increased landslide risks in Western Washington, and a slide along State Route 18 blocked eastbound traffic near the Tiger Mountain summit for several hours Monday. Another slide closed State Route 109 in the Hoquiam area.

NWS Seattle said showers were likely Tuesday, with a possible thunderstorm early in the day. Temperatures are forecast in the high 40s or low 50s throughout the week. A break in the weather is expected Tuesday night, with new patterns set to arrive Wednesday and Thursday. Mountain passes are expected to pick up a few inches of snow into Tuesday morning.
