King County Inmate Dies At Harborview Medical Center
An inmate died one day after being transferred from the Seattle jail to the hospital. The cause of death was not immediately released.
SEATTLE — An King County inmate died at Harborview Medical Center on Sunday, one day after being transferred from the downtown Seattle jail, officials announced Monday.
The cause and manner of the inmate's death were not immediately available and will be determined by the King County Medical Examiner's Office. In a news release, the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention identified the person who died only as a 53-year-old.
The DAJD said it would work with Public Health - Seattle & King County to perform an internal investigation, as standard procedure for all deaths at the jail, and the Seattle Police Department will conduct a separate probe.

Earlier in December, King County recorded its first coronavirus cases contracted within the jail after 16 inmates tested positive for the virus over a single weekend. As of Monday, the DAJD dashboard showed 21 cases diagnosed among currently incarcerated adult inmates. Officials have not said whether the virus played a role in the death.
