The local rock group Pearl Jam emerged from the early 1990s music scene known for its "grunge" sounds.

SEATTLE, WA - A rock group from Seattle called Pearl Jam has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, the organization announced Tuesday.

Pearl Jam achieved popularity in the early 1990s with such hit singles as "Jeremy," "Alive," "Daughter," and "Better Man." Pearl Jam emerged from the Seattle "grunge" scene alongside notable groups like Soundgarden, Tad, Alice In Chains, Mudhoney, and a local group named Nirvana.

Musicians and musical groups are eligible for inclusion in the hall of fame 25 years after the release of their first recording. Then, about 900 rock music critics and other luminaries vote for a handful of groups; fan ballots are also counted.
