Local Snow Dusting 'Probable' On Monday - But 3-4 Inches May Come Later

University of Washington meteorologist Cliff Mass breaks down what the forecasts are saying.

SEATTLE, WA - Local weather guru Cliff Mass wrote on his blog this week that some of best weather predictors are pointing to "at least a dusting" of snow early next week - but the models show a "good chance" of three to four inches later in the week.

But right up front, Mass admits that predicting snowfall in the Puget Sound region is very hard. The region doesn't often have the right mix of cold and wet conditions needed for snow, Mass said, because Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean are relatively warm bodies of water.

Mass' whole blog post is worth a read. He dives into probabilistic weather forecasts based on U.S. and European models. Read the whole thing here.
