SEATTLE, WA — Seattle Councilwoman Lorena Gonzalez has put her 2020 run for state attorney general on hold. Gonzalez made the announcement after Gov. Jay Inslee announced his intention to run for a third term in 2020.

Gonzalez only announced her run for state AG on Aug. 8, saying at the time that she would not run against Democratic Attorney General Bob Ferguson.

"To be clear, I will NOT run against [Ferguson], who has led the state, and the nation, in protecting our civil rights. Bob is a good friend, and he has served our state well," she said on Aug. 8.

Ferguson had long been seen as one of the statewide figures who would run for governor in 2020. But when Inslee dropped his presidential campaign on Wednesday, Washington's political scene was suddenly rearranged, and Ferguson announced he would seek another term as state AG.

"I look forward to continuing to support our governor and attorney general and the work that lies ahead of us all," Gonzalez said in a statement posted to her Twitter account.
