The Aurora Avenue Bridge crosses the Fremont Cut between the Queen Anne and Fremont neighborhoods in Seattle. Transportation officials are advising residents to simply avoid Aurora Avenue in both directions for the foreseeable future.
The bridge has been the site of major crashes before. In September 2015, a Ride the Ducks boat crashed into a coach bus in the middle of the bridge. Five people riding on the coach died. In 1998, a King County Metro bus drove off the side of the bridge after a shooting on board. Three people, including the shooter and the bus driver, died.
