Major Crash Blocks Interstate 5 In Thurston County
A crash involving multiple semi-trucks broke a concrete barrier and spilled lumber across several lanes near Maytown.

THURSTON COUNTY, WA — Both directions of Interstate 5 were blocked Monday afternoon after four semi-trucks crashed in Thurston County, 12 miles south of Olympia. Washington State Patrol said one of the semis, heading northbound, jackknifed into a center barrier just after 1 p.m. Another northbound semi hit the first one, pushing it through the barrier, where it was hit by a third truck heading south. A fourth truck veered off the road attempting to avoid the crash.
Troopers said no other vehicles were hit and there were no serious injuries to anyone involved. Traffic in both directions was blocked for almost 10 hours. WSDOT said all available crews responded to the scene, working to tow the trucks, clear the debris and repair the center divider. All lanes reopened just after 11 p.m.

Tow trucks and @wsdot_tacoma crews are dealing with a lot of debris and extensive damage to the barrier and the semis involved. Thanks for your patience as everyone works quickly and safely to get the roadway back open. pic.twitter.com/n1JTfEci3w

This is a very large scene. Thank you for your patience. No confirmation on injuries or the total number of vehicles. We have several semis, including one jackknifed across the north and southbound lanes. This is going to be a long one. I will continue to update this thread.

The barrier east-west. It should be north-south. We must replace and remove the lumber before we can reopen all lanes. Please expect long delays if you must travel between Tumwater and Centralia. #Maytown pic.twitter.com/BFumZRdLhE
