Making Kits Together Makes Understanding Others Easier

Thankfully, Baitul Ehsaan Mosque, First African Methodist Episcopal Church, and Congregation Beth Shalom host Seattle Limbe Sewing Circle.

Ahmadi Muslim women give thanks for this year of community-building with the First African Methodist Episcopal Church and the Congregation of Beth Shalom in Seattle, WA. Seven times in 2017, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women’s Association of Seattle chapter hosted interfaith events which brought together women of diverse religious beliefs at their Baitul Ehsaan mosque in Monroe, WA. Together they made 1,600 feminine hygiene kits to be taken to Limbe, Cameroon in January 2018. Volunteers say that it’s easier to ask about touchy religious topics while sharing a common activity such as crafting.

Working for religious freedom follows the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). In the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (peace be on him) and the Promised Messiah, revived this practice of non-violent religious tolerance. In his book, “Star of the Empress”, he wrote that there is a need for people of different faiths to peacefully discuss their religious beliefs to prevent mistaken understanding of those beliefs.

One way members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community express their gratitude for religious freedom in the USA is by giving support to social service projects like the “Seattle Limbe Sewing Circle”. Their volunteers agree that Thanksgiving provides a time for feeding the hungry, staying connected with family and expressing gratitude for our blessings.

Seattle Limbe Sewing Circle gathers three more times in 2017:
