Making White People Uncomfortable: Michael Bennett's Book Out Now

Former Seahawk Michael Bennett's book "Things That Make White People Uncomfortable" came out Tuesday.

SEATTLE, WA - Whether former Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett makes you comfortable or, well, uncomfortable, you have to admit that he's a man of words. The title of his new book out Tuesday, "Things That Make White People Uncomfortable," is both provoking and intriguing.

In the book, Bennett, a noted social justice champion, and co-author Dave Zirin (an editor at The Nation) take on the tough subjects of racism and police brutality as seen through Bennett's life experiences. He also talks sports, criticizing organizations like the NCAA and the NFL.

According to early reviews, the book carries on the tradition of athlete-activists, from Muhammad Ali to Bennett-contemporary Colin Kaepernick.

"In places, the book reads like the author is trying to be as provocative as possible, but he ultimately shows a commendable seriousness of purpose, providing a call to arms to other pro athletes to use their platforms for cultural responsibility and to fans to understand the human dimension of the NFL and the price paid for the on-field violence that serves as their entertainment," Kirkus Review wrote of the book.

Curious? You can buy Bennett's book from Haymarket Books.
