Man Dies After Shooting Along MLK Way In Seattle

The victim was brought to Harborview Medical Center Sunday night but was pronounced dead.

SEATTLE, WA - A man died after being shot along Martin Luther King Jr. Way South in South Seattle Sunday night, according to police. The man was a passenger riding in a car and was shot near the intersection of Othello Street.

The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday. By the time the victim arrived at Harborview, he was dead, police said. Witnesses told police that an unknown assailant opened fire on the car the victim was riding in.

So far in 2017, 26 people have been murdered in Seattle. That's the highest number of murders since 2008 when there were 29, according to Seattle police statistics. Compared to 2016, murders are up 44 percent in Seattle this year, but the murder rate is about 3.69 per 100,000 people. The U.S. average is 5.3 murders per 100,000.
