Mariners Home Opener: Safeco Adds New Food For 2017 Season
Pizza, Chinese, new beers, and, yes, fried grasshoppers, join the Safeco menu for the Mariners 2017 season.

SEATTLE, WA - The Seattle Mariners home opener gets underway at 2:10 p.m. Monday, and if you're headed to the game - or any game this season - you'll have a smorgasbord of new food items to choose from. For the 2017 Mariners season, Safeco has added a bunch of new food and drink options, from local beers to new restaurants.
Here are some of the new delicious and interesting-sound foods Safeco has added this season:
Ballard Pizza Co.
Brought to you by Seattle restaurateur Ethan Stowell, Ballard Pizza Co. will serve pizza by the slice and salad. Selections include: cheese; pepperoni; funghi (seasonal fresh mushrooms and thyme); ham & pineapple; salsiccia (Italian sausage, fennel, fennel pollen). Pizza is made "New York-style" with thin, foldable crust.

Dynamite Chicken
Another one from Stowell, this eatery offers "Dynamite Chicken" (buttermilk-marinated fried chicken); hot wings with honey-chili sauce; "Seattle Wings" (Taylor Shellfish Farms fried oysters with Frank's RedHot sauce); pickle fries; and spicy tater tots.
Great State Burger
From Josh Henderson, this is a place for a "classic American burger," except these are made of organically raised beef. You can get a double or a single patty, plus traditional toppings like cheese. They also offer a veggie burger (organic grains and seasonal vegetables, deep-fried). Traditional sides include fries and milkshakes.

Poquitos
Yes, this is the one with the fried grasshoppers. Poquitos is taking over the Northwest Mex concept at Edgar's Cantina and Edgar's Tacos (but those concepts will retain the name "Edgar's") with street tacos (chicken, beef and pork) served on handmade corn tortillas. They'll also have seasonal margaritas and Oaxacan chapulines (toasted grasshoppers with chile-lime salt seasoning).
Uptown China
A favorite restaurant in the Queen Anne neighborhood, Uptown is taking over the Intentional Wok at Section 133 on the Main Level with classics like beef and broccoli, General Tso's chicken, Kung Pao chicken, Mongolian beef, sweet and sour pork, fried rice, hot and sour soup, bubble tea, and giant Mariners fortune cookies.
Heritage Distilling
Gig Harbor's bewitching distiller will take over the Third Base Terrace Club Lounge, which will be renamed the Heritage Distilling Co. BSB Lounge. You'll be able to get Heritage spirits, including its brown sugar bourbon.
Rita's Italian Ice
There will be five locations of this treat stand serving frozen ices, gelati (Italian ice layered with frozen custard), Misto shakes (Italian ice blended with frozen custard), frozen custard cups, cones (regular and waffle) and sundaes, and frozen custard cookie sandwiches.
Frozen Rope Sandwich Company
This "sandwich" spot will open near Section 132 on the Main level and offer made-to-order ice cream sandwiches with choice of Hope's gourmet cookies, house-made brownies, hand-scooped Snoqualmie Valley or Lopez Island Creamery ice cream, rolled in toppings like mini M&Ms, Fruity Pebbles, nuts or chocolate sprinkles. If that's not enough, they'll have hand-dipped Stubborn Soda Root Beer floats and (alcoholic) hard root beer floats.
Fletcher's
Not necessarily new at Safeco, Fletcher's formerly served dogs from 1990 to 1999 at the Kingdome. Fletcher's is back, and is now the "official hot dog of the Seattle Mariners."
Caffé Vita
The Seattle-based specialty coffee roaster will now provide all hot and cold brew coffee a Safeco.
Barrel-Aged Ale
If you're ready to step away from a light lager, visit this beer stand on Section 129 for barrel-aged ales from local brewers like Georgetown (Seattle), Black Raven (Redmond), and Silver City (Silverdale).
Hop Valley Brewing
This Springfield, Ore., brewer will offer IPAs and lagers at a tap-stand along the Main Level in a converted shipping container.
Columbia Winery & Beringer Founders' Estate Wines
These will be the new house wines at Safeco, and you can find them at the 1st Base Vine, near Section 126 on the Main Level with a selection of varietals available by the glass and full-bottle carafe.
