SEATTLE, WA — SDOT crews were able to pull off a small miracle overnight into Monday morning, reopening Mercer Street and I-5 ramps in time for the morning commute.

SDOT had said on Sunday night that Mercer would stay closed into Monday to continuing cleanup and road repair related to Saturday's deadly crane collapse. King County Metro had also warned bus riders to expect delays due to road closures, especially along routes 63, 64, and the RapidRide C line.

The crane collapse happened Saturday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. at the Google campus under construction at Fairview and Mercer. Four people died, including two ironworkers and Seattle Pacific University freshman Sarah Wong.

Three other people were injured, including an infant and mother. They were released from Harborview Saturday night, however.

The state Dept of Labor and Industries is investigating the crane collapse. The Bellevue-based company GLY Construction was the main contractor on the Google project, and has said it will cooperate fully with L&I.
