Metro Routes 3, 4 Will Stick To James Street

King County Metro was considering moving the routes to Yesler Way.

From King County Metro: King County Metro has been considering moving routes 3 and 4 to Yesler Way from James Street in downtown Seattle to make the routes faster and more reliable. We studied the feasibility of changing the routes and considered input from riders and other stakeholders. Now, after considering the options, Metro has decided keep routes 3 and 4 on their current pathway along James Street.

About half of our survey respondents supported this concept, but many stakeholders and people who live, work, and travel through the area were concerned about how it would affect seniors and people with disabilities and/or low incomes who use the James Street stops to reach housing and social and government services. Our study showed some potential for faster travel times in one direction, but the improvement would not be significant for the routes overall, and would not justify the high cost of infrastructure to support the change. For more information about this decision, please visit our website.

To everyone who gave us input on this project, thank you. We’ll continue working with the Seattle Department of Transportation to improve the speed and reliability of routes 3 and 4. We’ll also coordinate with our partners to explore future large capital improvements to the James Street and I-5 interchange.
