SEATTLE — The home of the Seattle Mariners will play host to the MLB All-Star Game in 2023, bringing it back to the Emerald City for the first time in decades, multiple outlets reported Tuesday. ESPN was first to report the selection of T-Mobile Park, citing "sources familiar with the decision."

League officials have yet to officially confirm the decision, but a "major announcement" is scheduled in Seattle on Thursday. According to the Associated Press, Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez are scheduled to attend the news conference.

The ballpark — then Safeco Field — last hosted the All-Star Game in the summer of 2001, during a year when the Mariners would log 116 wins and make the playoffs. According to the Seattle Times, the Mariners submitted their bid to host the game in 2019, highlighting improvements to T-Mobile Park. The Los Angeles Dodgers will host next year's All-Star Game after their 2020 game was postponed due to the pandemic.
