More August Heat Next Week: Puget Sound Forecast

Seattle could see another heat record fall next week as temperatures again climb near the 90s. Here's what to expect.

SEATTLE —Portions of Puget Sound may have another brush with 90-degree temperatures next week, thanks to a ridge of high pressure that is likely to warm up much of the West. The National Weather Service is already tracking the next round of heat, expected to arrive around the middle of next week, and shared some early temperature probabilities Friday.

Places like Issaquah, North Bend and Olympia could hit 90 by Wednesday, with Seattle showing a good chance to hit at least the mid-80s. The Emerald City has already logged its third-highest number of 90-degree days on record this summer and will tie the all-time record if the city breaks the threshold again Wednesday and Thursday.

While there is still some uncertainty around the specifics this many days out, forecasters said above-average temperatures are a good bet Monday through Thursday.

"Expect a steady warmup with afternoon temperatures across the interior in the lower to mid 80s Monday and Tuesday and in the upper 80s to near 90 through the middle of the week," wrote Matthew Cullen, lead forecaster at NWS Seattle. "The middle of the week is still likely to be the warmest, but the late stages of the week remain a little less clear."

Forecasters said moderate heat risks are likely to develop across the interior from Tuesday through Thursday, with a chance for higher risks for communities in the Cascade foothills as warm overnight temperatures limit relief.

The National Weather Service said there are still some unknowns in the forecast for late next week, with current models suggesting a 40 percent chance of above-normal temperatures persisting through Friday. More details on the full picture of next week's outlook will be shared in the coming days.

In the near term, the Seattle area is in for a pleasant weekend, with mostly sunny skies in the forecast and highs in the mid-to-low 70s both Saturday and Sunday.
