Mudslide In Seattle Will Keep Highland Park Way Closed

The Seattle Department of Transportation will keep the busy West Seattle artery closed due to a mudslide.

SEATTLE, WA - The Seattle Department of Transportation has announced that Highland Park Way in West Seattle will remain closed until at least Thursday due to a mudslide.

The mudslide happened around 5 a.m. Wednesday, and even caused brief power outages in the surrounding Delridge neighborhood.

Highland Park Way is a major artery for the southern end of West Seattle, delivering drivers to SR 509, Marginal Way, and Highway 99. No one was injured in the slide, the Seattle Fire Department reported.

The National Weather Service, meanwhile, has issued a special weather statement for the entire Puget Sound region warning of increased risk of landslides.
