National School Walkout: 95 Schools Participating In Puget Sound

SEATTLE, WA - Wednesday will be a day of protest for hundreds of students around Puget Sound, and thousands more nationwide. Close to 100 local schools will recognize National Walkout Day, where students around the nation will leave school at 10 a.m. in honor of the victims of the Parkland shooting - and to demand politicians do something to prevent the next Parkland.

Wednesday marks one month since 17 students and teachers were massacred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Students who walk out on Wednesday morning will remain outside school for 17 minutes, one minute for each victim.

The walkouts are a preview of nationwide marches planned for March 24. For that event, demonstrators will gather at Cal Anderson Park in Seattle at 10 a.m. and march to the Seattle Center.

Also on Wednesday, Gov. Jay Inslee will host a town hall on gun reform at Seattle University. The event will be broadcast beginning at 7 p.m. on KIRO 7.
