New Amazon Go Store Opens In Seattle

With a second location in Seattle, perhaps Amazon's cashier-free store will have shorter lines.

SEATTLE, WA - Amazon's first Go store in Seattle was supposed to be a revolutionary kind of shopping experience, one without the checkout lines of typical grocery stores. Amazon's Belltown Go store turned out to be so popular, patrons actually had to wait in long lines (although they moved quickly).

Amazon is opening a second Go store in downtown Seattle Monday, hopefully alleviating the strain on the Belltown store. The store opened at 920 5th Avenue, adjacent from the downtown Seattle Public Library, at 7 a.m. Monday.

At about 1,400 square-feet, the new Go store is a little smaller than the first one in Belltown. But patrons can expect the same checkout-free experience. To enter a Go store, download the Amazon Go app and link it to your debit/credit card. Then, just walk inside, pick out what you want, and leave. A network of cameras and sensors track what you pick out - or put back - and charges you through the app when you leave.

You'll be able to buy convenience store staples like candy, pre-made sandwiches, and drinks at the new Go store. Amazon plans to open a few more Go stores soon in San Francisco and Chicago.
