Large protests fuel fears over virus rebound

Some leaders and health experts fear that massive protests against police violence that have swept cities across the U.S., including Seattle, will lead to a new wave of virus cases, the Associated Press reports.
In Washington D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser said Sunday she was worried that protests could lead to new COVID-19 outbreaks. Many protesters have worn masks, but social distancing has scarcely been observed.
Demonstrators in Seattle and elsewhere were protesting the death of George Floyd, 46, who was killed in Minneapolis Monday after a white police officer kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes while Floyd begged for air. The arrest has been condemned by law enforcement officials nationwide.
The Seattle protests escalated into a series of clashes between civilians and law enforcement, resulting in dozens of arrests, complaints of excessive force and widespread property damage.
